why don't they like to lift...
Doing cardio at the gym is no problem for me and I don't have an issue going into the weights side if the gym and lifting either. But after talking with some of my friends they all have the same fear of going onto the "boys side" of the gym and lifting. After thinking about it, there is an intimidation factor of going and lifting where the guys are.

For the most part the guys don't go to the gym alone like girls tend to. From what I see girls usually go to the gym alone and do cardio with their headphones in and don't really talk to anyone while they are working out. Guys on the other hand, arrive to the gym in a group of four or so. They march themselves right over to the weight section of the gym and lift together. They follow eachother around, watch eachother lift, grunt when they lift and sometimes wear t-shirts they clearly cut the sleeves off of to not get in the way of their lifting. You know since they all think they have bulging muscles and are oh so desirable at all times.
I understand why my friends don't want to go interfere with whatever the guys are doing. God forbid we see someone we've hooked up with or have a crush on, how mortifying would it be for them to see us attempting to lift. Plus being gross and sweaty after a good cardio session isn't exactly the time we want guys to see us.
tabata...
Instead of rolling over and not doing any strength training, start doing tabata! After I introduced them to this they can't get enough of it. After doing cardio in the gym, either go to the fitness studio or back home to an open space. Set how many exercises and reps you want to do, turn on the app, blast music and get going!
