Who else remembers when mom let you put on makeup for the first time? I remember when I was finally allowed to go to school with makeup I thought I was hot stuff walking into the building. I was uber confident with my mascara and blush on that day. Turns out, some mascara and blush, doesn't cover it anymore. This is what my makeup bag looks like now...
Now with all the girls running around with their fake-baked tans, extensions, eyelash extensions and whatever else people are doing now, I have to somewhat keep up with them. So now this is what my makeup bag looks like...
Even though my makeup bag seems like a hot mess, it is but I know where everything is. In the smaller bag I have all of my brushes and tools, and in the big bag is where all of the makeup actually is. You could say I have a bit of an obsession with Bobbi Brown. Most of my makeup is Bobbi, this is because I like the way it feels on my face. It feels nice and airy on my face, doesn't clump and thank god doesn't make me break out.
If you go to any make up counter at the mall or Sephora and ask them to give you a makeover but to just use the "basics" they will go way beyond that. So let me tell you what the necessities are with both the actual makeup and the tools to use.
the base layer...
First of all make sure you ALWAYS have a freshly washed face before you begin putting makeup on. It is first important to start with a face moisturizer with an SPF. Even though it isn't always summer, you can get sunburned on any given day, and who wants provoke the wrinkles to come earlier than they need to? I use a moisturizer that can be found at any drug store or supermarket. The Neutrogena oil free moisturizer with SPF 15 in it, I put this on every morning and after I wash my face or shower. Next to take care of those pesky bags under my eyes, I use two of Bobbi Brown's products. First I put on the under eye corrector using the pad of my finger. Next I use the under eye creamy concealer duo. The first part of the duo, I again use the pad of my finger and dab then rub in under my eyes. This balances out the first corrector. The final part of covering those bags, is taking a powder brush (like an eye shadow brush) and putting the powder under your eyes. Poof the bags are gone. The final step of the base layer is to put on a tinted moisturizer foundation. For this you should squeeze some of the product out onto one of your fingers on your non dominant hand then use a foundation brush to evenly spread over your face. For this you should use a foundation brush, make sure to not only get your entire face, but also the neck.

finishing up the face...
Now that the hard part is done, its time to brighten up the face! No matter what, you want to have a face the same color as the rest of your body. So please pick a foundation and powder carefully!! Use a powder brush to add the foundation powder to the face and neck, for an even look. Add a bit of color to your cheeks with some blush. For best results, make a fishy face in the mirror and use the blush brush over the cheek bones.
onto the eyes...
The eyes are the fun part of doing makeup! This is where you can experiment with different trends, I know for me this is really the only thing that ever changes in my makeup routine. I have a basic gel eyeliner that I use everyday as well as a basic eyeshadow for my brow bone and my lid. On the other hand, I also have some cool cream shadows like galaxy and gold dust from Bobbi Brown for date night or a night out with the girls. I also have the Naked2 pallet from Urban Decay, this has so many options for eye shadow colors to try new trends. Besides the steel ink gel eye liner, I also like having some more fun colors. For instance I have a silver liner to help make my blue eyes pop.
lashes & brows...
After spending all of that money getting eye brows waxed and threads, why would you possibly neglect them on a daily basis? The answer is you shouldn't, use a clear or tinted gel to keep them in place all day. This way they will hold their shape and while pulling shirt, sweaters or jackets over your head you wont have to worry about having to keep fixing them. Depending on what I'm doing for the day will help me decide which mascara to use. I am a loyalist to two different kinds of mascara. Blinc is great for days that include anything that could cause runny mascara. Blinc is great because it simply doesn't run, instead, it will come off in a flakey spider web looking way. It will only come off with warm water and pressure of your fingers or a wash cloth. This is great when you are planning to go swimming and don't want to look like you are crying black for the rest of the day. My favorite on a daily basis is "they're real" by Benefit. I love this because I do not have bold lashes at all. Benefit makes my lashes look longer, fuller, and my eyes stand out more. After all, your eyes should be the focus of your face.
On a side note from all of the make up, don't forget to remove the makeup at the end of the day and wash your face. No matter how tired or drunk I am at the end of the day, I somehow always manage to take off my makeup and wash my face.
